1. Event Background

Guizhou has long been favored by students from ASEAN and Southeast Asian countries due to its unique geographical and climatic advantages, similar cultures, and many other reasons.

In addition, Guizhou has held the "China ASEAN" Education Exchange Week since its beginning, and is familiar to these countries. ASEAN students can come to Guizhou, which is closer to their hometown and has a similar climate and geographical environment, to learn Chinese and medicine, and serve their country in the future. They are excellent friends who has firm friendships with us.

GMU has held many activities like cultural exchange event, academic seminars, group tour etc, and equipped us with excellent experience. Those events are fruitful for participants, thanks to the various facilities and supportive staff in school.

2. Activity content

(1) Event Theme:

The main theme is to showcase the profound cultural history of GMU and reflect the spirit of medical students taking responsibility.

• Target audience: Targeted at second and third year high school students as well as undergraduate students (majored in medicine) in ASEAN countries.
• Selection method: Selection is conducted through individual application and recommendation from partners.

3. Event period: 1 week

4. Content: Offering immersed training courses on "Chinese+Medicine", students will have chance to be a part of our Chinese culture classes, medical classes participation, academic lectures, etc, showcasing the spirit of "being a great doctor" in our school.

• Agenda

Arrival: The visiting group arrive in Guiyang and take school bus to the Yunmanhu campus.

Day 1: AM

Welcome Ceremony, and campus tour with teachers. (including Life Science Museum and all other facilities)

Day 1: PM

Make portable Chinese medicine bags symbolizing "good luck" as heartwarming gifts. After that, students will come to the Yunmanhu Campus Juchuang Cafe with their classmates to participate in the afternoon tea activity, enhancing friendship and allowing students to understand "studying abroad as a future doctor" from a closer perspective.

Day 2: AM

• Chinese Culture Class: Calligraphy and Traditional Music. Introduce China's extensive and profound calligraphy and traditional music culture, students will experience calligraphy themselves, and showcase traditional Chinese musical instruments.

l Introduction to Colourful Guizhou Class: Let students understand the basic overview of Guizhou. Get to know more about its abundant cultural heritage and diverse history.

• Medical Chinese Class: Students will learn basic Chinese under the context of Medical environment. The class mainly involves listening and speaking exercises, leading students to engage in dialogue as doctors and patients using the sentences and phrases. The course content will be combined with hospital visit and fun sports events in subsequent activities.

Day 2: PM

Attend medical classes for international students (with our 2023 batch students), observing and participating in practical activities under the guidance of senior students and teachers, interacting and discussing with them in the medical teaching environment, further gaining a deeper understanding of the teaching characteristics of "Theory+Practice" in our school's medical classrooms, and experiencing the daily study of international students in medical school.

It can also provide the visiting students with a preliminary understanding of what medical student should face, and guide students to spontaneously engage in further in-depth thinking on the importance of developing medical disciplines for human destiny and the significance of practicing medicine.

Day 3: AM

Visit Guizhou Medical University Affiliated Hospital and Stomatological Hospital.

The students will go to the Beijing Road campus, visit the outpatient building, inpatient department, and imaging building of our affiliated hospital, and visit our affiliated Stomatological hospital. Through this, students will have a general idea of  the clinical internship and employment environment of our clinical medical students, and have a more intuitive experience of our medical school.

Day 3: PM

Visit the Guizhou Provincial Museum (history and culture of Guizhou Province), combined with our Guizhou Overview course, to carry out task-based visits such as venue check-in, searching for exhibits, and writing down the most impressive exhibits for sharing.

The research and learning task is explained by the leading teacher before the visit, let students to understand the history of Guizhou, tour the exhibition materials related to special architecture style, "era of coexistence of collection and agriculture", and "unique karst culture", inspiring students to explore the common in the history and culture of Guizhou and other south-east Asia countries.

Day 4: AM

A story sharing session with the theme of showcasing the love and power of precious doctors in the world. Invite representatives of current GMU students to share their experiences of studying in medical institutions; In addition, invite doctors from the Guizhou-Solomon Islands medical team to share their experiences as a doctor with young students through their vivid stories

Day 4: PM

In order to enhance student friendship, a mixed team competition will be held in the form of a sports friendship competition. The competition will include flag pulling, emergency team relay running, medical terms quiz (mainly based on the content learned in this experience class), drumming and flower passing, pitching, etc. 

Day 5: AM

Degree program introduction will be conducted by the staffs from different teaching institution, for example rehabilitation medicine, leisure sports, pharmaceutical science, preventive medicine, applied psychology, public management, medical biotechnology and other majors at our school. Finally, Wu Jiahong, the Dean of the School of Overseas Education, will deliver a speech and announce the activity officially finish.

Day 5: PM

Farewell show, take bus to visit Longli Town, watch Guixiu performances together, experience the intangible cultural heritage project of flower stick dance, and return to Yunmanhu Campus after finishing.
